Patches with glue on the backside are ironed directly on the product – such as cloth, canvas bags e.g.

Glued-on patches are an exclusive, easy, quick, and nice alternative to embroidery. The patches can easily be ironed by using a normal clothes iron. The glue on the backside melts at 170.

If you wish to remove the patch after ironing it on a garment – you can do it by reheating the glue on the patch – and then removing the patch with tweezers or some similar tool, while the glue is still fluid.
